Varsity basketball gameday
My first year as an editor, I was eager to try my hand at everything. I desperately wanted to try out video journalism, and what better way than to marry it with my love of basketball. With these varsity basketball videos, I generated the idea, planned our coverage and edited both videos. Unfortunately, I was unable to gain the experience with shooting video. However, that would eventually come this year in another basketball video that took on a different style.

We are always looking for the best medium to showcase certain content. Is it a traditional article? A Q+A? A photo gallery? It’s a relatively clear conclusion that people would rather watch sports than read about sports. So, one evening when the varsity boys basketball team had a game, I took it upon myself to grab a video camera and record some footage. The result was this brief, one-minute video showing highlights of the game. In conversations with our audience, I received very positive feedback about showcasing sports content in this format.
